Feb 01, 2018  -  Frequent travelers generally start to learn the ins and outs of arriving at the airport with only enough time to spare to make it to their gate – but accounting for long security lines can throw a wrench in even the best planned trip to the airport. To get around this, trip-organizing app TripIt has introduced a new feature that will tell users how long the waits are at airport security in select US airports.Skip the rush to security with a new app feature. The additional information could be make or break for travelers who cut their travel time close. The feature is available on TripIt Pro – requiring a yearly subscription for US$49(£35) – which will now monitor security checkpoint lines to let users know how the long the wait is near their gate. The app will send users an alert three hours before their flight, showing them the current wait times so they know what to expect. They can then check back for real-time updates. The app also has a built-in airport map that helps them find the nearest checkpoint or how to find the quickest security line.

Currently, the feature is only available for certain US airports, starting with Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Denver International Airport, Orlando International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

“Wasted time at the airport really adds up—especially for frequent travelers,” said Jen Moyse, director of product for TripIt from Concur. “If the security line is short, you could end up with a lot of extra time. If there’s a long line, you could risk missing a flight. Letting travelers know how long they’ll spend in the security line helps them make the most out of their valuable time.”
