Brake, the road safety charity, has published a new guidance report aimed at health & safety and fleet professionals, in collaboration with MiX Telematics – a leading, global provider of fleet management solutions.

‘Using technology to improve fleet safety’ provides essential information for organisations that employ at-work drivers about developments in vehicle technology that can assist them to reduce their road risk. The guidance includes information on the benefits of technology such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including both automated and warning systems, and driver behaviour systems and telematics. It also gives an update on developments with automated and connected vehicles. The report also provides an overview of crash protection for vehicle occupants, crash protection for those outside the vehicle (other road users), blind spot protection, and anti-driver impairment and distraction systems. Best practice case studies provide an insight into measures other organisations are implementing to address their risk. This resource is available free of charge to all Brake Professional members through www.brakepro.org. Non-members can order it from the Brake shop, or join Brake Professional to access this and other resources.*SPECIAL OFFER* The first ten non-member organisations to request a copy of the report will receive it for free. Driving is the most dangerous activity most employees engage in, and it is vital that organisations take positive steps to manage their at-work road risk. This report provides information on some of the technology available, and I would encourage anyone with responsibility for at-work drivers to draw on the knowledge shared in it.”

Brodie Von Berg, MD MiX Telematics Middle East and Australasia, stated: “When you consider that 39% of worker fatalities across Australia were due to a vehicle collision* it’s easy to see why just over a quarter of fleets use telematics, with adoption set to grow further over the next 12 months.** Telematics has a crucial role to play when it comes to protecting fleet drivers as it helps to improve safety levels and reduce risk, both of which are paramount when it comes to operating fleets.” Brake Professional is a not-for-profit global membership service for professionals working in the field of fleet safety. Members receive access to the www.brakepro.org website including its library of guidance reports, tools for use with drivers, and best practice case studies.
