Provincial voters slap in the face to the political classes

Napier, MSCNewsWire, Firday 24 June 2016 - Brexit boiled down to a victory for a coalition of the middle and working classes against the London – based elites in the non productive sector. The London enclave of elites was an insufficient bulwark against the provincial ire centred on the rallying point of immigration.

The clearly defined target of this provincial ire was the recognisable and fashionable ruling class itself rooted in institutions such as The City, universities, the BBC, The Guardian, and what is seen as the hereditary leadership of the governing Conservative Party, along with the ultra visible doctrinal wing of the Labour Party.

The correctly anticipated solidly pro Remain Scottish vote failed to carry the day. The Scots and their historic and romantic tie to Europe since the Jacobite era was insufficient to counter the Leave vote preponderant in the English and Welsh provinces.

It is there that the UK’s ajar door to immigration was viewed as a conspiracy between industry looking for cheap labour, idealistic professional elites, misguided ecclesiasts looking for congregations, and Chardonnay socialists determined to parade their liberal credentials.

Stay campaigners had counted on Britain’s spectacularly low unemployment rate of five percent to counter in the provinces the accelerating disquiet on immigration.
