Jan 16, 2018 - The latest NZIER Quarterly Survey of Business Opinion shows a sharp drop in business confidence following the General Election, with a net 11 percent of businesses expecting economic conditions to deteriorate over the first half of 2018. Business confidence had fallen in the previous quarter ahead of the General Election, and it appears uncertainty over new Government policies have made businesses even more downbeat.

Jan 15, 2018  -  Kiwi workers who have enjoyed the traditional New Zealand summer break at the start of the year should be heading back to their jobs this month feeling rested, refreshed and ready to face the next 12 months. But their challenge, research shows, will be hanging on to that feeling.  Work-life balance was identified as an issue by 66 per cent of respondents in the New Zealand Diversity Survey, conducted in October last year. Stress was a challenge in 62 per cent of organisations surveyed, and 50 per cent of respondents noted concerns about the mental health of staff or colleagues.

Jan 12, 2018  - Panasonic Avionics Corporation has unveiled a major evolution of its satellite connectivity service with the launch of its third-generation communications network at CES 2018.  Panasonic Avionics’ third-generation network is built to meet the growing connectivity demands of airlines and their passengers. Throughout the first quarter of 2018, aircraft from a number of airlines will be transitioned to Panasonic Avionics’ new network. In addition, Panasonic subsidiary, ITC Global, will leverage the new broadband network to deliver connectivity to its energy, maritime and enterprise customers.

Jan 10, 2018  -  Long before the start of the harvest the New Zealand avocado crop was estimated to be down by approximately 50% due to the bi-annual nature of the trees. The latest estimate has the New Zealand export crop at approximately 2.2m trays down from over 5m in the previous year.

Jan 9, 2018  -  Kalmar has signed an agreement to acquire the port services business of Inver Engineering in Australia. The investment in Inver Port Services supports Kalmar’s goal of growing in services while strengthening and broadening its existing service capabilities throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. The acquisition was closed on 29 December 2017.
