LanzaTech Awarded $4M from DOE

Chicago, IL (December 30th 2016) Carbon recycling company, LanzaTech has been selected by the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) to receive a $4M award to design and plan a demonstration-scale facility using industrial off gases to produce 3M gallons/year of low carbon jet and diesel fuels. The facility will recycle industrial waste gases from steel manufacturing to produce a low cost ethanol intermediate “Lanzanol”. International Travel and Migration: November 2016

New Zealand’s unadjusted annual net gain (more arrivals than departures) of migrants was 70,400 in the November 2016 year, Statistics New Zealand said today. This slightly surpasses the previous annual record of 70,300 set in the October 2016 year. “The annual net gain in migration came from an increase in migrant arrivals combined with a decrease in departures,” population statistics manager Jo-Anne Skinner said. “People arriving on work visas made up a third of all arrivals.” Migrant arrivals numbered 126,700 in the November 2016 year, a new annual record. Visa types contributing the most were: work visas (41,200, 33 percent…

SEATTLE (AP) - A New Zealand man charged with trying to buy devices used on airplanes, spacecraft and missiles in the U.S. so he could sell them to China faces a federal trial. William Ali is accused of attempting to violate the Arms Export Control Act. The device, called an accelerometer, is designed to help with aircraft navigation. Trump to withdraw from TPP on day-one of Presidency
United States President-elect Donald Trump said today that he will withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on the first day of his presidency. In a video posted to Twitter, Trump said on day one he would "issue a notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a potential disaster for our country. Instead, we will negotiate fair bi-lateral trade deals that bring jobs and industry back onto American shores." Twelve countries including Canada, Mexico, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Peru and Chile signed the agreement, which would reduce tariffs to try to boost trade in the region. The deal…

Apple is reportedly reshoring manufacturing of the iPhone

Apple is reportedly asking its manufacturing partners to investigate moving iPhone production to the United States, according to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei. According to the report, sources claim that Apple has approached Foxconn and Pegatron, the two manufacturing companies that are largely responsible for assembling iPhones. Foxconn is apparently exploring the possibility, while Pegatron has elected to decline due to cost concerns. According to the Nikkei, Apple made the request to explore moving manufacturing to its partners in June, prior to President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the recent election. But despite that, this report has to be considered in light…

PEPANZ Chief Executive Cameron Madgwick says the IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2016 forecasts consumption of natural gas to grow by 50 percent by 2040, with oil demand growing at a slower rate, but still reaching 103 million barrels per day by 2040. “Together oil and gas will make up over half…

The new Trump Make America Great again website now on-line

When it comes to Trade Reform here is an extract from the new website www.greatagain.gov Free trade is good as long as it is fair trade. American workers are the best in the world. On a level playing field, we can compete, and win. Yet, too many American jobs have been lost over the last decade because of trade deals that do not put Americans first. Factories have closed and jobs have moved overseas because the government has imposed crushing regulations and taxes, while it negotiated trade deals that incentivized American companies to make things abroad, where environmental and labor…

China Responds to Trump’s Trade War

One of the president-elect’s central campaign promises was to bring manufacturing jobs back to America by imposing tariffs on foreign goods—particularly those from China and Mexico. Much like the holiday season, after so much build-up it’s hard to believe that the election season is finally over. This cycle, the U.S. was surprised to unwrap a Trump victory, leading many to wonder about what the next four years will bring for the country and the world. In response to comments by economist and potential Trump advisor Judy Shelton in an interview with Bloomberg Television, China’s Global Times published a brusque editorial…
