Chorus launches new premium fibre service for businesses

Chorus has today announced it has launched a new premium fibre service for businesses, including a 10 gigabit per second (Gbps) speed variant that will be widely available next year.

Over the past year, Chorus has worked closely with retail service providers to shape this premium fibre service for business. This feedback has been instrumental in delivering Chorus’ most premium business product to date.

The fibre service today provides speeds ranging from 100Mbps to 1Gbps. The 10Gbps variant planned for next year adds a higher specification service, enabling businesses to choose the best service for their needs.

Chorus Chief Customer Officer Ed Hyde says the service will give businesses an uncontended point-to-point fibre service for a consistent and reliable performance. It will allow retail service providers and their customers to future-proof their businesses without having to consider new network technology.

“In today’s world, network access isn’t just about a connection to the internet,” said Mr Hyde.

“New Zealand businesses are increasingly relying on fibre as a critical business enabler. We expect this new high speed service to help businesses be more effective. This service will allow employees to work more effectively through video conferencing, better connect to important business tools in the cloud and help businesses trade more effectively on a global scale.

“It’s also about running bandwidth-intensive businesses, using multimedia software and tapping into hosted or cloud based applications. This is where the service comes into its own.”

The service will be available nationally, wherever fibre is available on Chorus’ network.

Vocus Communications GM Susie Stone believes customers will flock to a 10Gbps product. “The demand for bandwidth is increasing at a staggering pace, and a 10Gbps circuit will allow businesses to access services and technology that would have been unthinkable even a few years ago. “More importantly, it will be affordable, so will appeal to a range of sectors – from smaller, like animation studios that have massive uploading requirements, to large organisations with hundreds of seats.”
