What is RV-ing

Feb 04, 2018 - A Google search quickly turned up any number of references to the term.  Enjoyed by thousands world wide and not least heare in New Zealand.  So much so that R&R Publishing who are based in Martinborough recently released the 68th edition of their RV Travel Lifestyle Magazine!

According to the good people at the SeniorsResourceGuide.com who are based in Littleton, Colorado RV-ing basically began after the first world war, ingenuity saw that packing a tent, blankets and cooking gear into cars made mobile travel convenient. The term Tin Can Tourist was coined as drivers of Tin Lizzies ventured across the country living off canned foods and camping along the way. By the 1920's Americans were building little homes and adding them to the chassis of their vehicles creating the first Recreational Vehicle otherwise known as RV's.

By the 1930's RV's were produced with beds, dinettes, battery operated electricity and water tanks. As recreational Vehicles caught on to the public, this caused a need for more campgrounds with larger facilities.

After the Second World War, RV Manufacturing increased production as more Americans sought to be mobile and adventuresome. By the 1950's travel trailers became the towable RV's offering build it yourself kits or custom 30 ft models. Since then RV- manufacturers have developed Recreational Vehicles in all shapes and sizes.

When it first started in New Zealand well this writer has  no knowledge of that but  I'm sure some one out there can come up with the information?

Meanwhile here is an article out of the United States written by Jane Rogers, an RV-ing enthusiast and world travellor extroadinaire who writes for Your RV Lifestyle.  With a bit of luck we will be hearing more from Jane as she shares with us her RV-ing tips & tracks and experiences.  It was Jane who sparked our interest in RV-ing when she sent through the following note advising us about the release of her 50 travel tips article -

"I have  just finished writing a guide that is even more detailed, updated and comprehensive on 50 travel tips from my past 10 years of experience travelling to more than 100 countries around the world. It is over 7,000 words and packed with practical tips and advice. You can find it here: https://www.your-rv-lifestyle.com/travel-tips.html
