New Zealand's building product standards need an overhaul, industry participants say.

The rules are being blamed for stopping innovative new solutions coming to New Zealand to dampen construction costs and speed up building processes.

But at the same time they are being accused of not doing enough to stem the flow of substandard materials into the country, which put property owners and construction firms at risk. . . . . .
