Pivotel already operates in New Zealand where it claims to have 4,000 wholesale and retail satellite services in operation. CEO Peter Bolger said the company had wanted to expand its footprint further in the New Zealand market for some time.

“New Zealand promises significant organic growth opportunities for Pivotel, particularly with emerging high-speed mobile satellite data services and the emergence of satellite IOT solutions” he said.

He added: “Wrights Satellite Connections has dominated the mobile satellite market in New Zealand since inception and it is a well-known and respected business in the satellite industry.

Pivotel claims to be the only licensed satellite service provider in Australia and New Zealand to be directly interconnected with all of the major mobile satellite operators, which it says gives it “an unmatched ability to deliver the best remote area mobile satellite communications solutions for all customers.”

The former managing director of WSC, Upul Wickremasinghe, said he would continue working at Wrights “helping to make the transition as seamless as possible.”

Pivotel’s acquisition of ESC follows its acquistion of North American satellite communications company, Global Marine Networks in September 2017, amove it described as “part of an accelerated push into the satellite data communications market.”
