Wellington building obtains New Zealand’s first 6 star rating Simon Devitt Photographer.

Jan 19, 2018  -  33 Customhouse Quay in Wellington has been accredited by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) with a 6 star NABERSNZ rating for energy performance – the first New Zealand building to achieve the top 6 star rating.

Beca provided building services and environmental engineering for the building, and are thrilled with this performance outcome and the benchmark it sets for the New Zealand property industry.

Owned by Stride Property Limited, 33 Customhouse Quay is a four storey, 5,000m2 building that is tenanted by Meridian Energy. Stride Property and Meridian Energy made the commitment to target energy efficiency, with support from the New Zealand Government. The building uses 78% less energy and 64% less water than comparable office buildings; making use of passive solar design, climate responsive dynamic facades, mixed mode ventilation, heat pump heating, active chilled beams, solar hot water, and an integrated building management control system that controls the active facades and the environmental engineering systems.

Alan Barbour, Beca Technical Director – Building Services, who led the environmental design of the building said, “33 Customhouse Quay was designed and constructed to be a leading edge building, and to set new benchmarks for sustainability and efficiency. The 6 star NABERSNZ rating is a terrific achievement and confirms the value added by the combination of low energy design and the ongoing commitment of the landlord and tenant.”

Find out more about NABERSNZ on the NABERSNZ website.
