Business supports TPP

WELLINGTON, 2 Feb 2016, BusNZ - Business and export groups have written to the Prime Minister in support of the Trans Pacific Partnership.

The 28groups, representing most of the private sector in New Zealand, say our economic growth would be under threat if we were not part of TPP.

BusinessNZ Chief Executive Kirk Hope says there is widespread support for TPP among business.

"Business understands that being part of TPP will enable more competitiveness, higher exports, higher value jobs, and new technology and practices.

"New Zealand companies will gain more opportunities for profitable trade and New Zealanders' wealth will grow.

"No trade agreement is perfect, but the Trans Pacific Partnership has achieved enormous gains for New Zealand without the need for significant policy change."

Mr Hope said the business and export groups supporting the TPP recognise that international trade is essential for New Zealand's success.

Organisations calling for support for the TPP include BusinessNZ, ExportNZ, NZInternational Business Forum, Federated Farmers, EMA, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch Chambers of Commerce, American Chamber of Commerce in NZ, Dairy Companies' Association, Meat Industry Association, Beef + Lamb NZ, Food& Grocery Council, Horticulture NZ, Horticulture Export Authority, Forest Owners Association, NZ Winegrowers, NZ-US Council, NZ Shippers Council, Port Company CEO Group, ManufacturingNZ, Medical Technology Association, NZ Health IT, Otago Southland Employers, ASEAN NZ Business Council, Japan NZ Business Council, Canada NZ Business Council and Latin America NZ Business Association.
