Napier, MSCNewsWire, Tuesday 28 June 2016 -  Winston Peters MP has positioned himself as the South Seas politician who is best placed to adjust the region to the changing face of Europe and the United States.

He was the only senior politician correctly to call the outcome of the Brexit referendum and did so a long time before the actual vote.

He is the only senior politician in the region to have correctly gauged the appeal of a would-be President Donald Trump. Again this was long before Mr Trump became the Republican front-runner.

Mr Peters (pictured) is now in the best position to present New Zealand to a post-Brexit Europe. In contrast premier John Key is a known fan of outgoing British premier David Cameron, and also a personal friend.

In post Brexit Britain in an action replay of its civil war and the Roundhead – Cavalier split, the Leavers, such as Mr Peters, will enjoy an immediate advantage at any negotiating table.

Across the Atlantic, a victory in the November election by Mr Trump, will have confirmed Mr Peter’s world-view.

Once again Mr Peters will be the only politician from this region with an immediate advantage at the international trade negotiating tables that will quickly follow a Trump investiture.

This is because Mr Trump has said his prime policy is to dismantle all the international trade treaties and especially those put in place during the Clinton co-presidency.

He has promised to unpick also the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement inaugurated by President Obama.

Mr Peters prairie populism gives all the signs of dovetailing with Donald Trump’s.

His trifecta is complete with support for his views in Europe, notably in France. A reader poll in France’s daily Le Figaro on the eve of the referendum showed that 70 percent of responders in fact wanted Britain to leave the EU.

One of the reasons for this is that Britain is perceived in the EU and in France especially as the enforcer for the EU’s hidden partner which is the United States.

With the active backing of Britain, the United States started the EU blockade of Russia, and in doing so removed the disposal market for Europe’s agricultural surplus – a major problem in France which now only consumes half its milk output. Once again, Mr Peters has been the only South Seas politician of any influence to speak out about the knock-on problems that this is causing in this region.

As Mr Peters, 72, watches all his predictions fall into place, he will also be assured of respect from the other end of the EU axis, Germany, where such weltanschauung , world view, is taken very seriously indeed.
